sod Installation

common questions

  • Sod can be installed at almost any time of the year but in Michigan we have to make sure its installed at least two months or a month before the end of November. The best time of year to lay sod, however, is in early and mid-fall when temperatures are cooler but grass continues to grow. Spring is the second best time to plant sod and is the preferable time for warm season so you can enjoy your vibrant green grass threw out the summer.

  • STEP ONE: The first thing we will be doing is the regrade, This is where we remove about two inches of material and removing all of the old sod out. Next we will rototill the area to break up any old roots to help loosen the soil, because of this we are going to install one inch of fresh top soil within the area and mixing it with the pre-existing soil. Then we will gas tamp the area to reassure settlement of the regrade. Lastly we will be adding the last quarter inch of top soil and spraying down the area to help all of the soil to settle into place before Installing sod.

STEP TWO: We deliver and install the sod within the same day as purchased, this is to reassure the quality of the sod. We purchase all of our sod from a local sod farm to have the best quality of sod installed. When receiving sod it is cut the same day of delivery/pickup meaning we are getting the freshest sod we could possibly have available. Lastly we will install the sod making sure the pieces are staggered so there wont be any lines in the lawn.

Note: The regrade can vary depending on the condition of the property’s grade and the quality of the soil. The soil could also play a factor in how much material is needed to be taken off the property and how much we would be replacing with new top soil.

  • The benefits of regrading your property would be drainage that is the main benefit in regrading your property you want the grade of your property slope away to have the water run away from the foundation of your home or structures on the property. if its not regraded properly it can have areas that fill with water or water sit’s around the foundation when it rain’s or in the yard. Another benefit of regrading your property besides the smooth transitions and amazing drainage is To replace a field of weeds with Healthy, Bright green grass and To repair lawn disease damage that’s why we include regrading in all of our sod job’s you can even undo insect damage by performing a regrade.

  • After we install the sod it’s important you water the sod!

    Watering Plan

twice per day!, in the morning and afternoon thorough, deep watering is best until the soil is saturated but not puddling. Morning is ideal with lower wind speeds and temperatures plus less water is lost to evaporation and the sun won’t burn the grass from being wet on those hot summer day’s. ruffly 20-30 minute cycle’s if its going to be hot it might be a good idea to let it run for an extra 10 minute’s before you take off for work. keep up this watering routine for at least one month two month to be assure healthy growth before going to back to your normal watering routine.
